Christ Church Cathedral
THE CHALLENGE: In early 2014, Christ Church Cathedral set out on a journey to develop a plan that would provide direction for the Cathedral’s vision and mission into the future. Central to this plan was the development of its Brand Identity and Communications.
The challenge was to develop a new identity – rooted in a thorough understanding and appreciation of the history and heritage of the cathedral – that would strengthen and create understanding of the Christ Church Cathedral brand.
The new identity would also be required to reproduce at scale across a variety of media, from print and digital to outdoor signage and environments.
THE RESULTS: The Capitular Seal of Christ Church dates back to the origins of the Cathedral over 800 years ago. It depicts the Trinity of God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit and has been the signifying marque of the Cathedral through the ages, playing an essential role from binding legal documentation to embellishing monuments and literature.
The start point for the new identity was a project to restore the Seal. We worked with the Cathedrals archivist to ensure integrity was maintained, and we commissioned a master craftsman to restore the Seal using wood-engraving methods that date back to the 1800s, providing unparalleled craft and detail.
The result is a beautifully hand-crafted restoration of the Seal, an icon unique to Christ Church Cathedral Dublin – and a key element for the new brand identity – articulating the Cathedral’s vision and mission that, since it’s foundation, has been the Spiritual Heart of Dublin.
