This brand film for Dunnes Stores was created to highlight the story that inspired menswear designer Paul Galvin’s Spring/Summer collection. Tattooed Man, intertwines clothing from the collection with the inspiration behind it, by telling the intriguing story of a Tattooed Irishman named James O’Connell.

Using a combination of live-action and animation, the film follows the narrative of Irish sailor who brought tattoos to the Western World in 1829. After finding himself shipwrecked on an island and tattooed from head to toe by locals, he eventually found himself in PT Barnum’s Freak Show in America where the public marvelled at his Irish jigs and were introduced, for the first time, to tattoos as we know them today.
