Paul O’Connell is not just Ireland’s captain; he’s the heart of the Irish team. On and off the pitch he is seen as a leader, a modern day gladiator, charging into battle time and again for his country.
On the eve of his 100th cap, team sponsors Three Ireland commissioned a full-page press ad that would commemorate this historic moment.
Working with photographer Alex Telfer, we set about capturing an image that encapsulated the measure of the man. We wanted to avoid the heroic pose that is synonymous with this type of ad and instead opted for an image of quiet self-reflection, beautifully portraying what lies beneath the fearless ferociousness we have come to associate him with.
