Bláth na Mara hand-harvest edible seaweeds on Inis Mór, continuing a longstanding tradition on the island. We worked with them to create an identity, merchandise and a packaging system for their growing range of products. Sustainable harvesting methods and respecting the environment are at the core of Bláth na Mara’s values. The honesty of their approach informed the straightforward and minimal typographic style utilised throughout all of their brand material with the subtle use of the tide line as a graphic device tying the applications back to the source of the product.
The identity uses the typeface ‘Broderick’, custom drawn in-house for the 2018 Venice Biennale entry ‘Free Market’. ‘Broderick’ was derived from vernacular Irish shopfront signage and fit perfectly with the values of honesty and autheticity we were trying to convey in the Bláth na Mara brand.
