The intention was to create the effect of one never ending panning shot to take the viewer from the West coast of Ireland to the East. The track, a music box interpretation of Blur’s ‘Tender,’ not only provided the emotional backbone of the film, but the music box punch card gave us the visual map for the film. Every note was represented by a punch hole on a scale from low to high. We then found locations that corresponded to those punch holes so that we could bring the song to life visually. Where the note appears on the musical register is also represented visually by where the window appears in different types of buildings, from small cottages, to dense apartment blocks. In post we stitched the locations together to create one shot. Every note, a unique window; every window a home, representing the belief of our client’s customers across Ireland. To complete the music box inspiration, the panning shot was calculated so that when the final shot was stitched together in post, it makes one complete 360 degree rotation.
